Being able to move and rename folders where WordPress is located is an important capability. For instance when you start a blog, you may not know what the eventual folder will be. Housing your WP installs in different folders allows you to have multiple WPs per host. However, the documentation on moving and renaming folders on the WordPress.org site does not appear correct. We spent a great deal of time trying to figure this out. We finally found the correct documentation here….

This includes a critical correct point regarding adjusting the .htaccess file.

On additional thing to do, which is not listed in this article is to change the media folder to your new folder. You do this under Miscellaneous.

For those of you that may not know, ScribeFire is a great way to create and manage the posts and pages on your blog. ScribFire is a plug-in for Firefox that incorporates an editor into Firefox.

To find out more about ScribeFire, hit up their site at http://www.scribefire.com

What we want to talk about today, is how to use ScribeFire to best effect.

For many months now we have been using ScribeFire sub-optimally. When you install ScribeFire you receive this little icon in the status bar of FireFox.

By hitting it you receive this view.

We used this view for quite some time. However, it is cramped and requires a lot of moving around of things in order to get enough space to operate.

Recently we found you have an option off of the ScribeFire icon on the toolbar to open an entirely new tab.

This opens up this view (if you select new tab)

This view is far more usable and spacious. If you are a ScribeFire user, try this view and see if it works for you.

High Level Organizational Design

There are many decisions to make with regards to organization. Furthermore, because of the flexible structure of WordPress, there are even more organizational decisions than most people realize. There are questions of organization within a single blog, but also questions or organization in terms of how many blogs to develop. This is because blogs can point towards one another. Increasingly what is becoming possible is for multiple blogs to serve as an integrated information infrastructure for individuals an companies. In a way, it was the original vision of Tim Berners Lee, which was sidetracked by the commercialization of the internet which dominated the internet for years at the cost of underdeveloping its content and informational aspects. This affected and was driven  by everything from browser softare to web software.

WordPress Organization Tools

The following are the specific tools or levers that allow for blog organization.
  1. CategoriesCategories are the most common and dominant form of organization in WordPress
  2. TagsTags are powerful in that they allow for cross relationships between categories and extra levels of detail.
  3. Nested PostingOne of the most interesting is the nested posting. This allows a post to be a child of another post. This can go on an on without limit.
  4. SearchingPlain text searching is simply organization on the basis of key words. This is the one tool of organization that comes “out of the box” and does not require anything done specifically by the administrator or editor.
